About Cenforce 50 mg (Sildenafil Citrate)
Cenforce 50 mg contains 50 mg of sildenafil citrate, a medicine used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. It is made by Centurion Laboratories Pvt Ltd and is a generic version of the sildenafil in Viagra.
It belongs to a group of medicines called PDE5 inhibitors. It helps men get and keep an erection when they are sexually stimulated. It does not work without stimulation, it does not raise sex drive and it is not a cure for ED.
Cenforce 50 mg is a prescription medicine. It should only be used after a doctor has checked your health, your other medicines and whether this strength is suitable for you.
What is Cenforce 50 mg used for?
Cenforce 50 is used to treat ED, the repeated difficulty in getting or keeping an erection firm enough for sex. ED is common and has many causes, including reduced blood flow, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, smoking, alcohol, some medicines, stress and anxiety. Your doctor can explain the causes of erectile dysfunction and check whether a medicine such as sildenafil is right for you.
Cenforce 50 is not a treatment for high blood pressure and should not be used for it.
How does Cenforce 50 mg work?
Sexual stimulation causes the body to release a chemical called cGMP, which relaxes the muscles in the blood vessels of the penis and lets more blood flow in. An enzyme called PDE5 breaks cGMP down. Sildenafil citrate blocks PDE5, so cGMP lasts longer, blood flow stays higher and an erection is easier to get and keep.
It works much like Viagra, because both contain sildenafil.
Cenforce 50 mg dosage and how to take it
- Take it only as directed by your doctor. The right strength depends on your age, health, other medicines and how well you tolerate it, so your doctor may adjust it up or down.
- Take one tablet with a glass of water, usually about 30 to 60 minutes before sexual activity. Do not break, crush or chew it.
- Do not take it more than once in 24 hours.
- It can be taken with or without food. It may work faster on an empty or light stomach, and a heavy or high-fat meal can delay it.
- Effects can last about 4 to 5 hours and vary from person to person.
- If it does not work well or causes troublesome side effects, talk to your doctor. Do not change strength on your own.
Other strengths of the same medicine include: Cenforce 100, Cenforce 150 and Cenforce 200. All contain sildenafil citrate and differ only in strength.
Missed dose and overdose
Cenforce is taken only when needed, so there is no regular schedule to miss. Never take more than one tablet in 24 hours to make up for a missed attempt. If you have taken too much, or feel very unwell afterwards, get medical help or contact a poison control centre right away. Signs can include severe dizziness, fainting, chest pain, a pounding heartbeat or vision changes.
Interactions: what not to combine with Cenforce 50 mg
Never combine Cenforce 50 mg with nitrates (for example nitroglycerin or isosorbide) or with riociguat. The mix can cause a sudden, dangerous drop in blood pressure. Tell your doctor about every medicine, vitamin and supplement you use, especially:
- Alpha-blockers such as tamsulosin and terazosin
- Blood pressure medicines
- Antifungals and antibiotics such as ketoconazole and clarithromycin
- HIV medicines such as ritonavir and atazanavir
- Other ED medicines
Food and drink: avoid large amounts of grapefruit or grapefruit juice, which can raise sildenafil levels. Alcohol can increase dizziness and low blood pressure and can make erections harder to get.
Precautions: who should not take Cenforce 50 mg
- Do not use it if you are allergic to sildenafil or any ingredient, or if you take nitrates or riociguat.
- It is not for women, including pregnant or breastfeeding women, and not for anyone under 18.
- Talk to your doctor first if you have heart disease, a recent heart attack or stroke, high or low blood pressure, liver or kidney disease, a bleeding disorder, a stomach ulcer, sickle cell disease, leukaemia, multiple myeloma, retinitis pigmentosa or a penile condition such as Peyronie’s disease.
- If you have been told to avoid sexual activity because of a heart condition, do not use it.
- Men over 65, and men with liver or kidney problems, may need a different dose, so ask your doctor.
- It can cause dizziness and vision changes. Do not drive or use machinery until you know how it affects you.
